FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GRAND RAPIDS SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES 2008-2009 SYMPHONICBOOM SERIES

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. April 6, 2008–Today the Grand Rapids Symphony announced its 2008-2009 SymphonicBoom Series to feature: Kenny Loggins, Friday, Oct. 10, 2008; “The Music of the Eagles,” Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 and Distant Worlds: Music from “Final Fantasy,” Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in DeVos Performance Hall.
Bringing audiences tunes from the recent past and present, the SymphonicBoom three-concert series is alive with rock, pop and other outside-the-box symphonic experiences.  Current audiences, as well as the next generation of Symphony-goers, will enjoy this new twist on the symphony experience.

Certain voices in pop music can be identified immediately with the first few notes of a song.  Kenny Loggins has such a voice. The two-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter will join the Symphony for an evening of his hits Friday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m., 2008.  For more than three decades as part of Loggins & Messina and then as a solo act, Kenny Loggins has entertained audiences with his rich lyrical voice and engaging stage presence. A great pop music era returns when he sings his classic songs such as “Footloose,” “I’m Alright,” “Celebrate Me Home,” “This is It,” and many more.

“The Music of The Eagles,” Friday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m., 2009 will feature hit songs from the country-rock band that dominated the charts in the 70s.  Anyone who thinks they’ve heard “Hotel California,” should think again. Featuring a full rock band with three vocalists and the orchestra, concertgoers will hear more than a dozen Eagles tunes such as “Heartache Tonight,” “Desperado,” “New Kid in Town,” and many more.  The band will reproduce The Eagles’ sound combined with the richness of the orchestra. Led by conductor and arranger Brent Havens, “The Music of The Eagles” will bridge the gulf between rock and symphonic music in a new way for audience members.

“Final Fantasy” video game players gear-up!  The music of the legendary Japanese video game composer Nobuo Uematsu will come alive when the Symphony presents Distant Worlds: Music from “Final Fantasy,” Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Conducted by Grammy award-winner Arnie Roth, this spectacular concert will feature music from SQUARE ENIX’s world-renowned FINAL FANTASY ® video game series performed by the Grand Rapids Symphony. This incredible performance will feature state-of-the-art video and images shown on large screens. Audience members will experience the thrill of the game’s most memorable sequences in a new way.  Nobuo Uematsu is said to be the “John Williams” of video game music and was noted in Time magazine in its story on video game music composers.  Audience members are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character to complete this “Fantasy” concert adventure.

The SymphonicBoom Series provides a casual Symphony experience. Audience members may take beverages they purchase in the Keeler Lobby into the performance hall to enjoy during the concert.
