David Hall
David Hall, a native of Concord, Massachusetts, has been assistant principal percussion / assistant timpani with the Grand Rapids since 1987. He presents many marimba concerts throughout West Michigan, most recently at Grand Valley State University's Lunchbreak Series, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Art, St. Cecilia Music Society and the Festival of Music at First United Methodist Church. Last year, Mr. Hall presented more than ten concerts, funded by the Music Performance Trust Fund, at local retirement homes.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Ithaca College, where he studied with Gordon Stout and was a three-time winner of the college's Annual Concerto Competition. He received his Master's degree in music from the Eastman School where he was awarded the Performers Certificate. Mr. Hall is also the winner of the 1985 and 1987 Aspen Music Festival concerto competitions, was a finalist in the prestigious Ima Hogg / Houston Symphony National Young Artist Competition and winner of the National Association of Composers Young Performers Competition in Los Angeles.
In addition to his position with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Mr. Hall has been an adjunct faculty member at Grand Valley State University and also taught percussion at several local middle and high schools.
