PRINCIPAL TRUMPET

Michael Bowman joined the Grand Rapids Symphony as principal trumpet in 1974. A native of Pontiac, Michigan, he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from the University of Michigan. His principal teacher was Clifford P. Lillya. Prior to joining the Grand Rapids Symphony, he was principal trumpet with the Saginaw Symphony and was a member of the Canary Island Festival Orchestra. Mr. Bowman has been a faculty member at Calvin College where he was Professor of Trumpet.

Mr. Bowman has performed as a soloist with the Orchestra and has been a member of the Grand Rapids Symphony Brass Quintet, performing educational and community service concerts through the region.
