Richard Britsch
Richard Britsch was appointed principal horn of the Grand Rapids Symphony in the fall of 1990 after his tenure with the Southwest Florida Symphony and Florida Orchestra. Every August since 1992, he has performed as principal horn of the Peninsula Music Festival in scenic Door County, Wisconsin. He performs regularly with the Detroit Symphony and has performed as guest principal horn with the Milwaukee Symphony and Taegu City Symphony in Taegu, Korea. He has also toured with London's Royal Philharmonic. He received his education at the University of South Florida in Tampa where his primary teacher was Ralph Froelich. He has also participated in the Florida Music Festival, American Institute of Musical Studies and the Sewanee Summer Music Center. As a soloist, Mr. Britsch has performed with the Southern Illinois Music Festival, Peninsula Music Festival, Southwest Florida Symphony and Florida West Coast Symphony. He has been a soloist with the Grand Rapids Symphony on several occasions, during the Erika’s Deli Bistro Market Rising Stars Series and Richard and Helen DeVos Classical Series.
Mr. Britsch was a founding member of the Florida Wind Quintet and the Emerald Brass. The Emerald Brass has concertized and given master classes all over the United States and won first prize in both the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and Summit Brass / Yamaha International Brass Competition. Their CD, Jewels, is a collection of the group’s favorite music not originally written for brass ensemble. Mr. Britsch is an adjunct faculty member at Cornerstone University, Calvin College and Grand Rapids Community College. Previously, he has been on the faculties of the American Festival for the Arts in Houston, Texas; Luzerne Music Center in upstate New York's Adirondack Park and Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Florida. An active chamber player, Britsch is a member of Beyond Classical, one of the Symphony’s Artist-in-Residence ensembles, as well as Ensemble Montage. Both groups are dedicated to bringing great music to new audiences.
