Martha Bowman
Principal Bassoonist Martha Bowman has been with the Grand Rapids Symphony since 1976. She received her Bachelor's of Music in Education and her Master's in Performance from the University of Michigan. In addition to her every day performing with the Symphony, Mrs. Bowman has enjoyed serving as the Symphony Women's Committee Program Director and as President from 2003-2005. For the past 7 summers, she has been a member of the Saugatuck Chamber Music Festival where she has had the privilege of performing with her daughter, Sarah, an accomplished oboist. Last summer they helped launch Chamber Music North which serves the Traverse City area. An avid animal lover, Martha is currently interning at The Red Barn Veterinary Clinic to become a Veterinary Assistant. She has been married to Principal Trumpet Michael Bowman for 32 years. When Martha is performing with Michael and Sarah, you can usually find their younger daughter Emily in the audience, who is a Biology major at their favorite school, the University of Michigan.
