Elizabeth Wooster Colpean joined the Grand Rapids Symphony as Principal Harpist in September 2000 and has twice appeared as soloist including a much talked about performance with jazz harpist Deborah Henson-Conant. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Wooster held the position of Principal Harp with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra where she was the featured soloist in the Flute and Harp Concerto of Mozart and Debussy’s Dances sacree et profane. During her two year appointment, she recorded several symphonic works including, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty ballets. She has participated in international music festivals including, The Pacific Music Festival, The National Repertory Orchestra, The Tanglewood Music Festival and the Seventh World Harp Congress in Prague, Czech Republic. In August 2000, Ms. Wooster performed at the Tanglewood Music Festival in a distinguished alumni concert during their acclaimed Festival of Contemporary Music and in 2002 performed at the American Harp Society Conference in a two-harp recital with her mother.

Upcoming engagements include an appearance with the Grand Rapids Symphony in the 2003-2004 season performing G. Tailleferre’s Concertino for Harp and Orchestra.

Her principal teachers include Alice Chalifoux, former Principal Harpist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and Susan Dederich-Pejovich, Principal Harp of the Dallas Symphony. Additional teachers include Lisa Wellbaum of the Cleveland Orchestra, Ann Hobson Pilot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Lynne Wainwright Palmer, former Principal Harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ms. Wooster holds degrees from Southern Methodist University and The Cleveland Institute of Music.
